WhatsApp has unveiled a new update for Beta users on Android (Beta version 2.21.9.4), which comes with 3 playback speeds for voice messages.
WhatsApp beta users on Android will be able to use this new feature.
Interested WhatsApp users can register for the beta program through this link to try out unreleased features.
There’s a WhatsApp beta program for iOS users as well. WhatsApp was spotted testing different playback speeds for voice messages last month, WABetaInfo reported.
It has now added three different playback speeds for voice messages and an updated UI.
WhatsApp beta users who are part of the test will see the playback speed symbol in a voice message.
There are three playback speeds of 1x, 1.5x, and 2x.
The voice message will play normally, but the speed will change once you tap on the icon. So the first tap will be to increase the speed by 1x, the second one by 1.5x, and the third one by 2x.
There’s no option for a slower playback speed for voice messages.
The new WhatsApp feature is available only to WhatsApp beta users and on Android. WhatsApp hasn’t rolled this out for beta users on iOS.
There’s no word on when it will be available to all WhatsApp users, but seeing how it’s rolled out for public beta users, it shouldn’t take long.
Last month (March), WABetaInfo broke the story that WhatsApp was working on a feature that could allow users to listen to voice recordings at different playback speeds.
WABetaInfo tweeted:
“WhatsApp beta for Android 2.21.6.11: what’s new?
WhatsApp is working on 3 different playback speeds for voice messages, with a nice UI!
The feature is under development, and it will be available later for iOS, and Android beta builds.”
According to WABetaInfo described the new WhatsApp feature by saying:
“The UI is very nice, and WhatsApp will allow changing the playback speed simply tapping the speed label: 1.0X, 1.5X, and 2.0X are the available options. WhatsApp would also support lower playback speeds, but they won’t be released to the public because they make less sense.
This feature is under development, and it will be available for both iOS, and Android beta builds in the next few weeks: stay tuned!”
