Facebook-owned WhatsApp is working on a feature that could soon let you transfer chats to a different phone number.
This implies your chat history might soon be untethered from your phone numbers.
This feature fixes the “issue” where a user cannot restore the chat history after buying a device that’s not on the same operating system.
It’s impossible to restore your chat history from iCloud on WhatsApp for Android, and WhatsApp for iOS cannot restore the backup from Google Drive.
WhatsApp is now working on a solution to migrate the chat history.
Earlier this month, it was announced that WhatsApp’s chat migration and sync feature might work across multiple devices. Now, details of how the messaging platform could further improve the feature have emerged.
WABetaInfo, a blog dedicated to hunting for new WhatsApp features, reports that the messaging and chatting service might soon let users transfer their chats to a different phone number.

Along with your chats, WhatsApp will also migrate media files to the alternate phone number.
The process to change your WhatsApp phone number should begin before you start migrating your chat history.
According to WABetaInfo, the new feature under development will enable you to do the following:
The process to change your phone number will be automatically launched before starting to migrate your chat history.
WABetaInfo further reports that the feature is currently under development for both Android and iOS phones. It should be available through a future update.
