Google Launches 2 Improvements to Search Console Reports

Google has released two updates on its Search Console: a feature to filter data using regular expressions and a revamped comparison dash with many metrics.

Google Launches 2 Improvements to Search Console Reports

Web admins can now use Search Console to filter knowledge by common expression (regex), in addition to an improved comparability mode with multiple metrics.

Regex Filters

Search Console now uses regular expressions (regex), which can create additional complicated questions and web page-based most filters.

Google described Regex in great detail by saying: “For occasion, let’s say your organization is known as ‘cats and canines’ however is usually additionally abbreviated as ‘cats & canines’ and even ‘c&d.’ You can use a regex filter to seize your whole branded queries by defining the regex filter: cats and canines|cats & canines|c&d.”

Previously, Google Search Console did not support complex cases, such as a query containing one out of a few optional strings.

It solely allowed website house owners to filter queries and web page URLs in accordance with three patterns below:

  • Containing a string
  • Not containing a string
  • Precisely matching a string

To use the brand new regex filter, follow the steps below

  • Begin by creating a question or web page filter,
  • Then, choose the dropdown menu and select Custom.

  • Search Console defaults to partial matching, which means the common expression can match wherever within the goal string until it comprises the characters ^ or $ to require matching from the beginning or finish of the string, respectively.
  • Reports default to case-sensitive matching. Site house owners can specify “(?i)” at the start of the standard expression string for case-insensitive matches.
  • Invalid common expression syntax will return no matches.

For further assistance with creating regex filters, Google points to a live testing tool found here.

Lastly, Google emphasized that some queries and pages may not be available to protect user privacy or due to storage limitations.

In such a scenario, the search engine giant promised to will show a reminder when a relevant filter is applied on queries or pages.

Revamped Comparison Mode

Webmasters use the comparability mode in Search Console to reply to comparability-based questions.

Until now, the table didn’t contain a comparison column with a relative difference in percentage if more than one metric was selected.

The revamped comparison mode now supports cases where more than one metric is selected.

An improvement to the interface nearly doubles the area available for the data table, making it easier to view results side-by-side.

The revamped comparability mode supports the new regex filter for queries and pages as well.

While comparability mode now permits a couple of metrics to be in contrast, just one filter at a time might be utilized to these metrics. Adding a brand new comparability filter will replace the prevailing comparability.

The new updates to Search Console at the moment are accessible to all website owners.
